Jessica's Week

This was almost more of a review week than anything, since several of my topics also align with other themes. It was a nice to have low key school that didn’t require much prep. I broke it up into nutrition, exercise, germs and cleanliness, and dental health. We learned about nutrition during food week so I was able to repeat some of the games and activities I gathered for that, exercise has some sports week crossover, for germs we used blood and bacteria Montessori cards from our body unit to create a new germ gather sensory bin. That pretty much meant the only major thing I’d need to prepare for was dental day and T can spend a LOT of time with her Dr Drill N Fill play doh set bc we only pull it out around dentist visits so this week was pretty low stress for me. All the repeats made it a little less interesting for Taegan but coming off Arctic week (one of our favorites) I’m ok with that. I feel like the most successful aspect of this week was just life skills. We used picture cards to go over nose blowing. After four years of regular boogy wiping or smeared face and sleeves this is a task I’m more than ready for her to handle independently. It was also good for practicing sequencing skills. We washed glitter germs a lot too as I’m hoping improved hand washing will help us ward off some of the sickness that’s rampant this time of year. She brushes her own teeth at least once (sometimes twice) daily without fuss but I think I’ll still go back over them with the electric followed by floss in the evening for another year or two to ensure we stay cavity free! The exercise ABC cards are something I think we’ll continue weekly throughout the winter. I let her pick a card, tell me the letter and sound it makes then we do the exercise together. Generally, we only made it through half the deck at a time but it got her moving and also reviewing phonic sounds so I think it’s a win for avoiding cabin fever.
